The Final Cartridge 3 (TFC3) is one of the most popular and versatile expansion cartridges ever made for the Commodore 64. TFC3: the cartridge, PCB and predecessor
The TFC3 came in a solid plastic housing with a printed logo. On the PCB you find the 64 KB EPROM and the characteristic 74LS logic chips. The blue housing of the original Final Cartridge shows how the design evolved across versions.
Final Cartridge 3 Turbo Loader and Disk Utilities
The FC3 fast loader was a genuine game-changer for everyday C64 use. Disk operations that once took minutes were suddenly done in seconds. This applies to all standard C64 disk drives, including the 1541 Disk Drive.
Beyond speed, the FC3 includes full disk utilities for formatting, copying and directory management, all accessible through the graphical desktop or directly via BASIC commands. The manual covers every function in detail.
BASIC extensions and machine code monitor
For BASIC programmers, the FC3 adds several useful commands that were missing from the C64's standard BASIC 2.0. DIR displays the disk directory from within BASIC, RENUMBER renumbers programs, and various scroll and file commands make daily programming much more comfortable.
The built-in machine code monitor is a full-featured tool for experienced programmers. It offers direct memory access, the ability to disassemble and edit machine code, and access to sprites, character sets and the disk monitor. Combined with the Freeze button, it provides a complete debugging environment.
